Environmental Sustainability

Description

Recognising the interrelationship between poverty reduction and environmental sustainability, the Aga Khan Foundation in Canada (AKFC) adopted its first Policy for Environmental Sustainability (PES) in 2005, which included an environmental screening and assessment process and sector-specific Environmental Guidelines. This was supported by AKFC and partner staff training and training-of-trainers, monitoring and technical assistance. The new PES 2015 (linked below) covers the period 2015-2024, and includes an Environmental Integration Process, tools, templates and technical guidance.

Over 2020, Cooperation Canada worked to raise awareness among Canadian civil society organisations about environmental mainstreaming and climate-conscious operations. AKFC was highlighted twice in two “good practice case studies”.
